Vices. Addictions. Seven Deadly Sins – Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Lust, Anger, Greed, Sloth. Actions Without Fear of Karma. Evil. Temptation. Cruelty. Manipulation. Physical Abuse. Obsession.
The Devil card has two primary interpretations. The first signifies being trapped, while the second signifies indulgence, particularly in vices. The inverted pentagram between the Devil's horns symbolizes the darker aspects of occultism and life, representing a state of bondage to sin. This can manifest as being stuck in old habits, addictions, or feelings of shame. It can also represent an excessive pursuit of pleasure, including physical pleasures and sins like gluttony and lust – temporary joys that are ultimately detrimental to us. However, the Devil also represents the potential for liberation from these vices through self-acceptance, which can unleash our creative power. Fear and shame often keep us imprisoned in a past that continues to control us. Despite its dark nature, the Devil card offers hope because by embracing self-love and acceptance, we have the ability to free ourselves from patterns of the past, addiction, impulsive behaviour, shame or anything else that holds us captive.
Reversed or with challenging cards around the Devil, this could indicate that we are now free from old chains, addictions or anything from the past that has been holding us back. The Devil card can represent self loathing, so in reverse can indicate a return of self love and acceptance. .
